Mauro Ortelli

Managing Director

An enthusiast for business excellence and robust services “delivered by people who care”.


A member of the IWFM and an FM professional for 25 years, Mauro specialises in operation self-delivery and sub-contractor management. Leading a dedicated team of regional managers and account directors who provide bundled FM services to a diverse client base across more than 1000 sites around the UK.

Mark Beach

Regional Manager

An experienced operational manager with a proven track record of delivering improvements across multiple service lines in a variety of business environments.


Mark has a strong eye for detail and with a great compliance to process and procedural requirements to then developing and implementing relevant systems and processes for a more efficient and robust service.


Mark spent his formative years in FM working in the leisure and hospitality sector bringing an excellent customer service ethos to everything he delivered. 


Having got married in 2018 Mark and his wife love both playing or watching sport and a regular holiday.  Mark continues to play club cricket during the summer and is a single figure handicapped golfer when the weather allows!

Phil Lakin

Regional Manager

With over 30 years with Compass Phil started in the business as a YTS trainee chef.


He has spent the last decade in FM services developing contracts and introducing innovations to customers including major FTSE 250 clients. He has a specialism in cleaning solutions and FM technology applicable to all industry and corporate sectors.


Phil is a cricket enthusiast and enjoys holidaying in Italy.

Paul Soni

Account Director

Originally a qualified chef, Paul made his way into facilities management through foodservice, catering and ten years of experience in soft services.


Developing his knowledge and management skills right across the full field of FM, he now looks after business in the South West. Helping to forge successful long-term relationships, he leads delivery across accounts - full FM in some cases, and a mix of hard and soft services in others. He’s a member of IWFM.

John Beer

Account Director

John has over 30 years’ experience in Workplace Management and the FM industry.


John runs his accounts by balancing strategic thinking and planning with building strong teams to deliver great service and value to his clients.  Identifying and nurturing talent from within his teams is what John believes is the cornerstone of great service and client satisfaction.


“It’s good to be able to make a direct contribution to business success and help create a great place to work. And brilliant to be surrounded by like-minded FM professionals who really live the 14forty commitments and are constantly looking for how they can do things better.”


Outside of work, John lives near Reading with his wife, daughter and Shetland sheepdog.  The family like being outdoors; in the countryside or on the water.

Karen Waring

Account Director

Karen has over 30 years’ experience across several sectors of Compass Group UKI, including secondments to global FM roles and projects. She is uniquely placed to develop and implement client strategy due to her experience in operations, key account management, sales and retention.


With a Marketing degree, Karen draws on her experience and expertise to drive strategic vision and direction, helping clients to restructure their teams, reduce operating costs and focus more on core business by building an FM model that suits their needs.


An inspired, energised workforce starts with the right leadership and Karen is passionate about alignment of business objectives and empowering the team to excel.


Away from work Karen is heavily involved in a local conservation project aimed at increasing bio diversity by encouraging habitats for bats- though she confesses she prefers organising the annual Garden Party more than counting the moths and insect food for those bats!


Janet Gibbs

Account Director

A background in Hotels, Retail and Office environments has placed Janet in an excellent position to be a talented and customer-oriented FM specialist.


A Masters Degree in HR enables her to motivate and clearing guide her teams to deliver quality operational delivery for over 15 years in the sector, both as a client and as an operator in Hard and Soft FM. 


Janet is passionate about service delivery and attention to detail, planning and preparation are her 100% focus and people are her passion.

Grant Bowes

Account Director

Grant began his career as a chef working everywhere from private schools to F1 teams before switching to Facilities Management in 2009.


He joined Compass in 2011 as a site facilities manager and quickly progressed to a regional management role, before becoming the Account Director for DHL in 2018. Grant’s passion is in developing the best teams to deliver what the client needs and devising innovative solutions to improve service delivery whilst managing costs.


Grant believes that time outdoors is time well spent and enjoys nothing more than getting away with his wife and daughter in their ageing campervan or throwing on his trainers for a run around the forest where he lives!

Mandy Holt

Account Director

With over 15 years of FM expertise from functional service delivery to strategic operational management, Mandy plays a key role in translating service delivery into real time benefit, delivering sustainable cost-effective savings through efficiencies. Mandy has great ability and operates with a level of honesty and integrity that is immensely valuable in the supplier/client relationship.


As well as directly managing a 14forty flagship account Mandy is passionate about developing people and supporting the central teams to deliver added value for our clients.


Away from work Mandy likes nothing better than time spent with the family.

Donna Lee

Head of Food

After 3 years in Compass, in 2018 Donna became Head of Food for 14forty. Her interest in food developed 24 years ago when she started work as a kitchen assistant in a golf club. This started her love of food and she has continued to work in contract catering for over 20 years with various roles such as catering manager, regional manager and Head of Operations.


Donna loves the variety of her job, working in an industry where customer demands and food trends are always changing. For Donna, the best thing about her role is working with people, developing her team and inspiring them to create better and unique experiences for customers and clients.


Donna lives in Norfolk with her husband and is a step mother to three grown up children. They enjoy walking on the north Norfolk coast, stopping half way for some top food;  her favourite being Thai Mussels. She also enjoys visiting the many cities across the world experiencing the different food and culture.

John Hamilton

Director of Health and Safety

John focuses upon supporting the 14forty teams ensuring the safety and health of our customers and colleagues. John has over 25 years experience working in both safety and operational roles in the facilities management industry.


He is passionate about engaging and inspiring colleagues to embed safety behaviours into the everyday work tasks. John leads the development of workplace safety strategy across Compass UK & Ireland and heads up our IOSH accredited training centre.


Away from work, John is a musician, playing drums and percussion in a live function band.

Tim Isaac

Security Advisor

As the 14forty Subject Matter Expert for Security services Tim consults with the wider operations and sales teams to build solutions to protect clients’ assets and people. Following 22 years of military service in the Royal Naval School of Engineering, Tim has 15 years’ experience in the private security industry in several operational, deployment and mobilisation roles.


Currently directly involved in the security of critical national infrastructure sites for a major client, Tim is a specialist in security systems and a huge advocate of technology to facilitate the development of manned guarding into a truly customer facing service.

Scott Freeman

Executive Chef

23 years in catering, 5 with Compass Scott has used his talents in a range of roles.


Scott managed the Culinary Apprenticeships for Compass UK & Ireland for 2 years more recently moving back into an Executive Chef role.


Scott is a qualified teacher as well as a Chef and used his talents to open the 1st Hospitality Careers College in the UK in 2014 where he was Head.


Scott loves outdoor cooking and has a bespoke outdoor kitchen at home that he loves using when it’s not raining. He enjoys swimming and cooking with his two young children. He has always loved cooking and even cooked all the food for his own Wedding day!


Scott loves working for Compass - every day is different and varied and the people he gets to work with are passionate, proud and care about their work.

Cathy Lea

People Parter

With 19 years’ experience in HR Management roles working in diverse industries Cathy returned to FM after a break of 5 years.


Her passion is to support people to be their best, to acknowledge their strengths and be brave to accept and face their challenges – a perfect connection to her role as a People Partner, looking for areas of improvement both for the business, the people we employee and for our clients
